Authentic Parenting
Workshop Series

Let’s Talk About Sex: Parents, Adolescents and the Inevitable Conversation

Date: Rescheduling

Investment: $15

What:

It can feel intimidating or overwhelming to talk to teenagers about sex.  This workshop will provide an overview of things to think about before having these conversations with your teen.  We will review information about adolescents and sexuality, looking at both facts and myths about teen sexual behavior.  You will learn guidelines on how to hold these conversations, and as how to manage your own feelings on sexuality during these conversations.  We will go over specific topics to cover and questions to ask your teen about their knowledge, experience, and values.  This workshop will include information for parents of LGBTQ+ teens.

Facilitator: Deanna Fierman, MA, NCC, LPC

Embodied Parenting

Date: April 21st 6-7:30

Investment: $15

What:

As parents, we know it’s important to know how to prioritize our kids.  Sometimes, though, we get stuck in this mode of giving all our best attention to them, even knowing that turning our attention to ourselves as parents is important as well. AND in fact not only is it important because we deserve to get our own needs met and to understand what is true for ourselves, but the act of turning towards ourselves- in the best moments, as well as the most challenging moments with our kids- is actually VITAL to being the best parents we can be. This workshop is designed to offer practical tools and skills for tuning in to ourselves in those moments- both for ourselves and for our kids!

Facilitator: Jill Leversee, MA

Self-Understanding as the Key to Effective Parenting

Date: May 19th 6-7:30

Investment: $15

What:

It can be a common occurrence for parents to bring parts of their own childhood experiences into their role as a parent, unintentionally influencing themselves and their family dynamic. By choosing to look more closely at this  through self-reflection, mindfulness, humility, and an openness to respond flexibly, we can begin to understand how any parts of our unresolved past may be playing a role in affecting some of our parenting decisions. Come join us for a night, inspired by Dan Siegal's book, "Parenting from the Inside-Out." where we will come together to to discover how intimately connected our own past relationships with our caretakers are with how we relate to and parent our own children.  Leave with new ways to strengthen your relationship with yourself and your family.
